As it's almost Summer...

...kind of, I thought I'd dig out this track to help disperse the inevitable gloom that follows snow turning to slush... Those of you who managed to hear A Scholar and A Physician's Uplifting Album a few years back may remember the track Very Yellow I recorded with Harriet "Ash has gone to Oxford/And Harriet to France..." Plewis; back when we were going out in our student days, she came over one hot July morning and we wrote this in about 45 minutes... we dangled an SM58 from my bedroom window to capture the Summer sounds... it's funny how sound takes you you right back to a particular time and place... I sometimes wonder what the people in the aeroplane you hear flying past are doing now...

Rich Whitelock took this photo in my studio during the Kamikaze Eyes EP photo shoot and I thought it should see the light of day. I know it looks all staged and faux, but I was actually playing some Eno-esque long sustained pad chords at the time...

Signs...

...is a song about signs and stuff. Having faith that eventually, perspective will out and everything will be ok because it always is. Inspired by waking up on New Year's Eve and chocolate fondue.

Fall (Orchestral Version)

A few weeks ago I performed my first gig and debuted a brand new version of Fall from I'm Sorry, I'm Lost. The album was all done in Cool Edit 2 see, and now I have Logic Pro... well. who's gonna spend days on end lining up .wavs to their correct tempo and spacings? And with the recent aquisition of the Garritan Personal Orchestra I felt I could now orchestrate Fall the way I heard it in my head all along... And now you can too!

Upcoming gig!

This November, I shall be playing the Port Mahon, Oxford, with The Reverse, La Frange, and Ape Has Killed Ape. Tickets are £4 advance and may be purchased here! This is my first gig since the glory days of Mecca, but with a little practice and implementation of my trusty Shure E2c In Ear Monitors, it'll be a jocund evening...

Kamikaze Eyes EP ready at last...

Just a quickie (ooo matron) to say that the Kamikaze Eyes EP is finally all mastered and completed. Rich Whitelock's beautiful artwork for the cover is being printed today and 'cos this limited edition cd is being funded and produced by little old me, I'm quite literally sitting here, putting a new blank cd into my drive every 4 minutes... I'm printing 100, so it's like 15 every hour... I feel like John Locke having to reset the Dharma button every 108 minutes... Anyway, the tracks (most of them anyway) should be here for download very soon!

Kamikaze Eyes and Alien mp3 download...

... is here. Kamikaze Eyes feautures vocals from Oli Horton (Trademark), Violin by Helen Sartory and vocal production by Steve (A Physician). Alien is here too (Steve reckons it sounds like Jesus Jones...) Get a lovingly designed hard copy at Truck Festival for free!

Elegy for M

...the third track from The Kamikaze Eyes EP is now online over at www.myspace.com/ashverjee. The EP will be limited to 100 copies and pressed into the hands of random people I meet at this year's Truck Festival where I shall be appearing with ASAP.

Ok, so Kamikaze Eyes is virtually finished. A Scholar recently added his sonic mastery to the track which will feature Oli Horton (Trademark) on Vocals...

After much stripping and rebuilding, Alien is now complete with much of the gumpf that was over-egging the pudding ejected.

A fourth (and final) EP track is currently in production as I type...

All the tracks will be up on my myspace site and right here for download very soon... I hope.

News

21 August 2005

Well the lovely Steve just spent ages round my house helping me with this website. We watched a bit of Lost and i stuffed him with Jaffa Cakes and Orangina. Anyway, here it is and I hope you like it. There are no exciting buttons to push, or crazy flash animations to play with, but there's a bit of stuff you can read and there's some music you can download.

I'm playing the Bestival as part of Piney Gir's band on the 9th-11th August. We shall be joining Roksopp, The Magic Numbers, The Super Furry Animals and the divine Emiliana Torrini so it should be a blast.

I'm Sorry, I'm Lost

"I'm Sorry, I'm Lost" is ash's self-released debut album. Spanning 8 years of songwriting, this tender and beguiling album is full symphonic melancholy, cinematic minimalism and features the odd UEA Drama clerk on vocal duties...

You can listen to some tracks below.
